Obituary for Wille Sanford Oliver

Willie S. Oliver, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He was born to the late Willie Henry and Minnie Lee Oliver on, August 8, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio.

"Mr. O." as he was affectionately known, graduated from East Technical Vocational School in 1962. As an avid runner, he earned a scholarship to attend Ohio University. While attending Ohio University, he ran cross country track, and pledged Alpha Phi Alpha, while earning a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a Social Studies Comprehensive in 1966.

"Mr. O." was a student teacher at John Hay High School before being hired by the Toledo Public School System as a History Teacher at Scott High School in August 1966. While at Scott High School, he became a Guidance Counselor and a Track Cross Country Coach for both Boy's and Girl's Teams.

Willie went on to receive his Master's in Guidance and Counseling, and a Master's in Administration and Supervision from Bowling Green State University and various Professional Licenses and Certificates.

During his time at TPS, "Mr. O.", was also Director of Lighted School Program, Chairman of Social Studies Department, Principal of Night School/Adult Education. He worked for the University of Toledo, as an Upward Bound Social Studies Instructor, Lecturer, Women's Track Coach, Liaison Officer and a Track Instructor of the National Youth Sports Program. Outside of working, he held various Board Member positions, the last being on the Fredrick Douglas Community Center.

He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Tanyika Oliver; sister, June Hill; grandchildren, Breyana Crittenden and Cameron Danielly; ex-wife, Shirley Fitzgerald Oliver; mother-in-law, Nellie Wordlaw; brother-in-laws, Jessie (Gennetta) Fitzgerald, James (Vivian) Fitzgerald and Marion "Ham" Cunningham; sister-in-law, Rebecca Fitzgerald and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
