Obituary for Herman Lewis Davis

Herman Lewis  Davis
Mr. Herman Davis, A.K.A.”Butter” A.K.A, “Cup” the baby of 11 to the union of Willie J. Davis and Ida B. May
Davis. Herman made a peaceful transition on, Saturday, February 4, 2017.

Herman accepted and confessed a hop in Christ at an early age, he was baptized in Toledo, Ohio, at Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. C.T. Rucker.

Growing up as an inner city kid in the Brand Whitlock Homes, (#183), Herman met a lot of friends while attending school at Gunkle, Libbey and Scott. Before graduating in 1968, from Jesup W. Scott H.S., Herman played basketball and baseball winning many awards and recognition. His senior year, he was MVP of the City League Senior All-Star team, where he struck out 9 batters in 4 innings. This caused them to win the 1st City League game, granting him a spot in Scotts Hall of Fame.

After returning home from Southern Pines College, which he received a basketball scholarship, and before attending the University of Toledo, Herman married his high school love, Georgetta A. Moore, and to this union, 2 children were born, Darrick Dion Davis and Deanna Delores Davis.

As a young adult, Herman enjoyed Tae Kwon Do, with his lil sidekick, Joseph"Punchie" Davis. Herman played softball and shot pool for the Eureka, (yeah, ya'll remember).

Right up until his passing, he enjoyed trash talkin and weekly battle with his son Darrick, brother, Bula, and his friend, Willie Clark, (uncle Bula did most of the trash talkin - you know, the Watergate cover-up, lol).

Before his retirement in 2006, Herman was employed for over 37 years at GM-Powertrain, as a Maintenance Engineer. He was well respected and loved by all fellow workers.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ida Davis, brothers, Isaiah Hall, Louis Hall, and Howard Davis

He leaves to cherish his memory, children, Darrick(Tasha) Davis, Deanna Davis-Smith, and Sammie Ramey; his life love of 25 years, Rita Hill; 5 sisters, Azonia(Cleveland) Sherman, GeorgiaH. Williams of Chicago, Illinois,Vera (James) Strange,Willie Mae (Robert) Brooks,and Ethel “baby sister” Davis;2 brothers, Harold (Roberta)Davis and Ernest “bula”(Brenda) Davis; 7 grandchildren,5 great-grands; nieces,nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday,February 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., preceded by a 9:00a.m. Wake at Mt. Zion, 701Vance St., .Pastor Talmadge Thomas, officiationg, Interment will be at Forest Cemetery.
