Today, we gather to celebrate the life and memory of our beloved, Lee Andrew Carter. A Toledo native, Lee was born July 3, 1950 to parents Willie Mae Carter and Lewis Moore. At a young age, both Lee and his brother Chester were adopted and raised by their step-father, Leo C. Carter.
Lee attended Sherman Elementary and Jessup W. Scott High School and later earned his General Equivalency Diploma (1977.) In his youth, he enjoyed drawing and often entered art contests. He also loved to dance; so much so that he was given the nick name “rug cutter” from family and friends because he was known to entertain, not only with his jovial personality, but also with his ability to “cut a rug” on the dance floor.
Although he was a fantastic dancer, Lee’s true passion was for the culinary arts. Lee was a phenomenal chef, and successfully completed Culinary Arts programs from both the Hocking College (1993) and The American Hotel and Motel Association (1993). He showcased his skills while employed at The Spaghetti Warehouse, The Olive Garden and Red Lobster. Family members especially enjoyed his spaghetti and black eyed peas with ham hocks. However, one of his personal favorites was his delicious carrot cake. Earlier in life, Lee became a certified auto mechanic (1978). He also was employed at Jeep, as well as having worked in property restoration, removing asbestos.
One of Lee’s finest moments in life, was when he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Lee was baptized at the True Church of God of the Apostolic Faith and was regularly attending Holy Spirit Apostolic Church.
Lee was a proud cancer survivor and shared that victory with all he knew. His determination and triumph over cancer, is best characterized by his daughter Felicia, who says her daddy was strong, great and will forever be her hero.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and leaves to celebrate his memory: Children, Tammy Zehourou, Felicia (Elbert) Stewart-Johnson, Lee Anderson and Yvonne Hodrick. Grandchildren, LaShontae Conley, Kaleeah, Khanyah & Lee Anderson Jr; Ashley, Johnathon & Nekeisha Munn and Khalali Abu Johnson; and three great-grandchildren. Brother, Chester (Diane) Carter; Aunt Loraine Wheatley; close cousins Charles Penn and Gary D. Kyle; best friend and cousin Jack Johnson; special friend, Nancy James and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
