Obituary for Anna Louise Johnson

Anna Louise Johnson was born June 6, 1932 in Selma, Alabama to the late Johnny and Kate Lee Colley Johnson. She was affectionately known as “Mama Anna” and also “Lou.” She was united in Holy Matrimony to Percy Johnson Sr., December 3, 1952. To this union, eight children were born. She was employed for the Toledo Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide, where she worked for 10 years in the Pediatric Unit. She was also employed for the Toledo Public School System as a bus driver, and she worked there for 10 years.

Anna had a genuine passion for gardening. She loved roses, making sweet potato pies, and traveling back home to Selma, Alabama. Anna was a giver, and she had a heart of pure gold. There was nothing that she wouldn’t do for anyone. She lived the life of a missionary to Christ, and she also dedicated her life to serving others as well. She was very poised, humble, loving, generous, patient, and truly a virtuous woman.
Anna gained the name “Mama Anna”, because she can be credited for effortlessly helping to raise a whole village, including her children, grandchildren, and many of her nieces and nephews as well. She was the strength and backbone of the family. She was the glue that held everyone together. She was indeed everything to everybody, a real lioness, protector, teacher, caregiver, and an ALPHA woman. When she entered the pearly gates, we know God said, “Welcome home thou good and faithful servant.”
Anna was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, where she held the positions of Worthy Matron and Lustrous Commandress. She was also in the houses of the Daughter of Isis, Pride of Composite, and the Golden Circle.

Anna accepted Christ at a very early age, and she joined Grant Chapel in Selma, Alabama. Later, she united with Northwestern Missionary Baptist Church; where she was a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed. At Northwestern, she held the position of President of the Nurse’s Auxiliary.
On Sunday, April 9, 2017, Mrs. Anna L. Johnson boarded “the old ship of Zion” at Fairview Skilled and Nursing Center at the age of 84. She persevered and fought the battle with failing health for many years before departing this life.
She was proceeded in death by both of her parents, sons; Stephen and Glenn, brothers; Willie, Bruce, and Lawrence.
She leaves to survive and to cherish her memories her sons; Retired Master Sergeant Lawrence (Theresa) Johnson III (Jacksonville, North Carolina), Percy Johnson Jr. and Karl Johnson both of (Toledo, Ohio), George Morgan (Selma, Alabama), daughters; Stephanie (Barry) Howard Sr. (Toledo, Ohio), Bernice Johnson (Selma, Alabama), Renee Johnson (Toledo, Ohio), sisters; Frankie Johnson (Toledo, Ohio), sister in law; Geneva (Robert) Moore (Toledo, Ohio), Ella (Richard; deceased) Singer (Toledo, Ohio), Eva (Lawrence; deceased) Johnson (Selma, Alabama), 26 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and a host of great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
