Obituary for James Majors
JAMES “Jim” OTIS MAJORS
March 11, 1934 – August 1, 2017
James O. Majors age 83 made his transition from this life to his heavenly home on August 1, 2017 while residing at Parkcliffe Community Assisted Living.
James “Jim” Otis Majors was born in the “hollers” of Gallagher, West Virginia to Robert H. and Edwina Carter Majors and was the eighth of nine children.
Jim attended public school in West Virginia graduating from the Booker T. Washington High School of London, West Virginia in 1951. After graduating he moved to Washington, D. C. to live with his sister Willa. There he attended DC Teacher College where he pledged to the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Jim confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gallagher, West M Virginia. After moving to Toledo Jim joined the St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of his beloved Pastor and friend the Rev. I. J. Johnson. Jim was an active member of the church but his most cherished position was as Chairman of the Deacon board for fifty years.
Jim earned an honorable discharged from the U. S. Army and was an active member during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he moved his family to Toledo where he continued his education, earning an Associate Degree from Davis Business College. Jim worked various jobs to support his family prior to his retirement from his favorite employment as Clerk, with the Domestic Relation Court. Jim was the life of most gatherings and he was a pleasure to be around. He was well loved by family and friends.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Joyce Majors, who has been his loving caregiver through his long illness, along with his daughter Erotida White, sons Clifford (Marilyn) Majors and Stephen (Regina) Majors, granddaughter Shelby Majors; Chimere Isaac grandsons Shannon (Heather) White, Clifford (CJ)Majors, Jr. and Stephen Majors, Jr.; Lamarr Isaac,Sr., Ronald Jr. and J. Bobby Collins, sister Willa Majors Johnson of Waldorf, MD, brother Louis “Candyman” (Christine) Majors of South Holland, IL; sister-in-law Barbara Macklin; seventeen great grandchildren, eleven nephews, eight nieces, along with a host of great and great great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, O. Harvey Majors and Robert D. Majors, four sisters Elaine Majors Upperdite, Norma Majors Taylor, Agnes Majors Miller, Marie C. Majors May.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and nurses at Parkcliffe Community for their care of Jim during his stay. We also thank his ProMedica Hospice Team for their care.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 11. 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Wake service will be at 11:00 am. Saturday, August 12, 2017 followed by Funeral service at 12:00 pm all at the St. Mark Baptist Church, 2340 N. Holland Sylvania road. Eulogy by Rev. I. J. Johnson, Rev. C. L. Johnson officiating.
