Melinda J.  Shands (Reid)
Melinda June (Reid) Shands, age 60 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2017. She was born December 1, 1956 to John and Fairie Reid, the youngest of nine siblings. A native Toledoan, she graduated from Scott High School at age 16 in 1974. She was a brilliant student who played multiple instruments and was a member of the Scott High School marching band. She attended Bowling Green State University and enlisted in the Navy after college. She was a gourmet cook who loved hosting social events and entertaining family/friends.
She was a freedom loving, candid, outgoing daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Always th elife of the party and full of laughter, she had a smile that could light up a room.
After working several jobs, she became a tax specialist for H & R Block and found her passion. She loved traveling and was a die hard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and a life-long fan of Peabo Bryson.
Melinda was preceded in death by her parents and brother John R. Reid. She is survived by her children, Akila Browne, Shayla (Juan) Shands, Haywood Shands Jr.; former husband, Haywood Shands Sr.; her sisters, Mary Bridgeman (St. Paul, MN), Mildred Hogan (Toledo,OH), Fanchon Allysworth (Cleveland, OH), and Marchelle (Orion) Gregory (Toledo,OH); brothers, Frederick Reid, Timothy (Charmel) Reid both of Toledo, OH and Christopher Reid of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Chester, Jujuan, Julian, Jordyn, Savanah, ShyAnn, Jordan, Michael, Hayleigh, Hayden and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
