Obituary for Betty Jean Hicks (Edwards)

Sister Betty Jean Hicks

Betty Jean, age 64, transitioned this life on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the Darlington Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 8, 1953 to the late Marion and Martha Edwards in Centerville, AL.

Betty married John Hicks in August 1971, and to this union one son, Fred Hicks, was born. Betty attended Centerville Elementary School and Bibb County High School.

Betty was employed many years by the Perry County Board of Education as a Bus Driver until she was injured in a bus accident and became disabled. Betty Enjoyed listening to music, playing guitar, fishing, gardening, and trying to find a way to help someone on their way.

At an early age Betty was baptized and joined the Providence Baptist Church in Marion, AL. A long time ago, Betty asked her niece Maggie to take care of her, if and when, she could not do it herself. She had confidence and faith in Maggie that she would do what she asked. The doctors had given up on Maggie, so she immediately called Maggie. Maggie moved Betty from Marion to Toledo in September 2017. She enjoyed Toledo while here and especially liked all of her nieces and nephews lending a hand to help Maggie. When Betty transitioned from this earthly home, she was happy and content, because she knew Maggie had kept her word and she wasn't worried about another new home. She bid everyone good-bye until she would meet us again. As she would often say, she was waiting for her Bro Marion to come out also just to talk with him. That is exactly what she called him "Bro Marion". After moving to Toledo, she couldn't wait until her only spoiled son, Fred, would come to visit and hopefully he would stay with her.

Betty was preceded in death by both parents, Marion and Martha; spouse, John; two sisters, Laura Heard and Cassie Rogers; five brothers, Manley, Willie, Joseph, Jessie, and James Edwards.

She leaves precious memories to her only living brother, who is also the oldest, Marion Edwards; son, Fred and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
