Obituary for Gregory Earl Savage

Gregory Earl Savage
Greg, was just 63 years old when he passed away on Friday, December 29th in his home. He was born on August 8th, 1954 here in Toledo to the late Thomas and Maxine Savage. Greg, was the seventh of nine siblings.

Gregory attended the Toledo Public Schools.

Greg, was very close to his family, and his friends. Growing up with Greg was quite an adventure. Greg, had such an interest in insects and snakes. For example: Greg, caught and put a snake in a jar and put it in the closet where our dad often prayed. You can imagine what Dad thought when he saw that jar. Dad's response was "I'm trying to pray the devil away, and now he's in the closet with me." Dad knew immediately it was Greg that put it there. He loved to play in dirt and at times would eat it. Greg loved sports, he played baseball and his positions were shortstop and pitcher. Greg was well known for his humor in which he inherited from our dad. He was also a practical joker. He would crack the door of their bedroom (shared with his other brothers) and put Dad's old army boot at the top of their bedroom door to keep his sisters out. If we went to their room without noticing the boot, we would get hit on the head. Greg, would laugh and laugh at us.

January 3, 1975-March 1, 1976, Greg enlisted in the United States Army with a medical discharge.

After being discharged from the Army, Greg moved to Washington DC with his brother Larry. He was employed at George Washington Hospital Center in Maintenance Department.

In 2009, Greg accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord at St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of his pator, Rev. James Willis. Greg was a member of the choir, the male chorus and often sang solos.

Gregory's presence will surely be missed among his family and friends.

Gregory leaves to mourn his passing, Son: Jerrod Blackwell, Four Grandchildren, Sisters:Rosalie Marshall, Shirley (Michael) Richardson, Pastor Maggie Stewart of Aberdeen, Maryland; Lois Harrison of Columbia, Maryland; Anita (Pastor Edward) Dunn. Brothers; Larry Savage of Newport New, VA; Albert Savage of Toledo. Greg was formerly married to Phyllis Walker-Savage. A host of nieces and nephews, along with many cousins and friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Pastor and First James Willis, for their long standing relationship with our brother.
