Donald "Duck" Harris
Donald Harris, affectionately known as "Duck", was born on December 30, 1943 in Andalusia Alabama. He departed this earthly life on June 1, 2018, at age 74, at the Mount Royal Towers Retirement Community and Health Center in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
Donald strived to be a loving parent and a productive member of the community. He worked at City Auto Stamping as a die setter until he obtained a severe leg injury and retired due to disability. Being the man he was, he did not let his injury keep him down. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty. He pursued various odd jobs to keep himself busy. In his younger days, he enjoyed swimming at various public pools as well as Olander Park in Sylvania Ohio. He also loved to go fishing. He didn't mind fishing on the banks or from a boat. He shared his fishing experience with many people. Donald also loved children and helping people whenever he could.
Donald was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Thompson) Harris; father, Rev. Alonzo Harris; his daughter Yolanda Charisse Harris; brothers Alonzo, Willie, and Michael "Ray", and sisters Helen and Maude Bell. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Prentis (Carol) Holmes and Donald Keith Harris; two daughters, Erika Harris and Lakeysha Knox, three grandchildren, Kamesha Welch, Ryan Holmes, and Kaliyah Jennings; two great-grandchildren, Kamya and Michael Peppers, all residing in Toledo Ohio; six brothers Burnice (Shirley) Harris of Mobile, AL; Robert (Linda) Harris of Voorhees, NJ; Theodore (Linda) Harris of Pensacola, FL; Anthony (Thelma) Harris of Pensacola, FL; Robert (Betty) Harris of Pensacola, FL; William Harris of Pensacola, FL; six sisters, Minnie Bounds, Toledo, OH; Delores (Tyrone) Holloway, Toledo; Constance Dotson, Toledo; Claudia (Byron) Daniels, Toledo; Pearlean (Eugene) Smith, Evergreen AL; Lorene (Joe) Johnson, Pensacola FL; god-daughter Justine "Pooder"; special loved ones Veronica and Demetria; as well as a host of beloved cousins, loved ones, and dear friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday June 20, 2018 at The House of Day Funeral Services Chapel. Followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
