Dorothy Day, Founder

Mrs. Day is a graduate of Tennessee State University, a Licensed Funeral Director since 1969, Licensed Insurance Agent, Notary, co-founder of the House of Day Funeral Service, and mother of Cassandra and Michael Day. A leader in her community, she is active in various community and civic affairs. Mrs. Day is an active speaker in area churches and a leader for women's rights. She is the author of a book of inspiring poems entitled, "Down, but not out", and is a retired teacher of the Toledo Public Schools, where she taught for over 25 years.

James Day (1921-2003), Co-Founder

Mr. Day was a graduate of University of Arkansas and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1960. He was a Licensed Funeral Director, Licensed Embalmer, Notary, and Co-founder of the House of Day Funeral Service. An Associate Minister of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Day spent many hours visiting and encouraging the elderly, sick and shut in. He was also a WWII Veteran that was very active in community affairs, and father of Cassandra and Michael Day.

Michael K. Day Sr., Funeral Director/Embalmer/President

Mr. Day is a graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science 1978, Licensed Funeral Director, Licensed Embalmer and Insurance Agent. A married father of three sons, and member of Prince Hall Masons, he is active in church and community. Mr. Day has worked in funeral service his entire life, beginning first at home in the family business, then abroad with Hall-Jordan Funeral Home, Cincinnati, Ohio, McFall Brothers Funeral Home, Detroit , Michigan and Stinson Funeral Homes, Detroit, Michigan. With this came a wealth of knowledge and experience that he has brought back to Toledo.

Cassandra Day-Moore, Co-Owner, Funeral Director, Embalmer, Pre-Need Insurance

Cassandra Day-Moore, Co-Owner, received a Bachelor in Applied Science in Mortuary Science with honors from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. She is also a licensed Insurance Agent and Notary public . A mother of three sons, and is active in church and often participates in community activities. Mrs. Day-Moore has worked in funeral service her entire life, beginning first at home in the family business, She served her apprenticeship at Hall Jordan Funeral Home, Cincinnati, Ohio, worked at Garr Funeral Home, Cincinnati, OH and Battle Funeral home, Cincinati, OH. She has gained experience throughout the years, which has helped her to develop a well rounded background in dealing with people from all aspects of life.

Alison Day, Funeral Director

Alison Day is the wife of Michael Day, Sr., a graduate of Wayne State University, with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mortuary Science. Mrs. Day has worked for many years in funeral service in Detroit, MI, before coming to Toledo. Her caring spirit and warm smile, comforts the families that we serve, along with her eye for detail.

Michael K Day Jr., Funeral Director

Michael is a graduate of The University of Toledo with a B.A. in Psychology. Son of Michael Day Sr., he has been around the funeral industry his entire life. A licensed funeral director, Michael represents the third generation of The House of Day Funeral Service. Michael specializes in working with families during at-need counseling, pre-need counseling and marketing and sales. His warm and caring personality helps families feel at ease during what can be a traumatic time in their life. Michael is also an active musician in the community playing guitar with local groups and churches. He also enjoys bowling, sports, and video games in his spare time.

Brian Day Sr.,, Assistant

Brian K. Day, Sr. is the son of Michael Day, Sr. and father of Brian K. Day, Jr and Heaven Lee Day. He loves working with families and is a great asset to the company.

Mr. Aaron C. Day, Social Media Specialist

Aaron is the youngest son of Michael Day, Sr. and he loves funeral service, and assist with the care of the families we serve. He is very active in the community and is also a very important part of the success of the House of Day. He is the wheels behind the Social Media department at the House of Day. Where he shares the obituary information and events going on in the Toledo area to family and friends FIRST. He has a passion for comforting and consoling grieving families at there toughest times. In his spare time, Aaron loves to write, record, produce music and entertain.Aaron is the owner and Founder of May Day Entertainment, LLC. / Private Suite Studio.

Clarence Strong, Assistant / Driver

Clarence is a very important part of the success here at the House of Day, husband of Betty and father of 5 wonderful children. Clarence is a 33rd degree Masonic Mason, where he remains faithful in Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons. Clarence's warm spirit, and caring attitude towards each and every family, makes families experience with The House of Day a pleasant one.

Gary Norris, Assistant

Gary is very important to The House of Day with his years of experience in Funeral Service. He excells in all he does, between driving the family, to assisting with the care of their love one. His concern for making it right, and doing the best he can, shows in his bright and caring smile to everyone who he comes in contact with.

Melvin Hughes, Maintanence Man

Melvin does it all. By trade he is a contractor who can fix, repair, and build anything. He is caring, and attentive to the families we serve by driving them, and making them feel comfortable.

Donnell Saxton, Assistant

Donnell is the husband of Damarus Saxton and father of Eliana Saxton. Donnell helps in many capacities, from keeping the building in great shape, to contacting doctors, and filing papers with our local health department. He is a great person, that truly cares for funeral service.

Joe Thomas, Assistant / Driver

Joe is the husband to Jacqueline and father of 5 children. Joe has worked in funeral services for over 15 years, and has a passion for it. Joe cares for the families we serve as if they where his own.

Jaleo Young, Assistant / Driver

Jaleo is a great help when it comes to serving our families. Besides assisting us over here at the House of Day, he also is the owner of J'maes Soul Food Restaurant on Lagrange St. He is a loving husband and family man and just a all around kind and easy going young man. We are pleased to have him be apart of our staff.

Develyn Davis, Assistant / Receptionist

Ms. Develyn is a great help here at the House of Day. She assists where ever she is needed from answering phones and doors, to filing claims and assisting families for us. She is a very sweet person and has a big heart.

Perry Harris, Driver

It's been a pleasure having Mr. Harris work with us. He is great with our families and shows a sense of compassion in their time of need. He put a smile on all who comes in contact with him.
