Obituary for Doristeen Oliver

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at The House of Day Funeral Services Chapel. Reverend John Barringer officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Please sign register book at Doristeen Mickel-Oliver, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at her residence. A native of Toledo for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Bishop Mickel Sr. and Corine Everage. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Willie Earl, Robert, Jerry and T.W.; and her sister, Yvonne. Doristeen earned an Associate Degree in Social Work from the University of Toledo, and was hired at the Salvation Army after many years of serving as a dedicated volunteer. She rose to the position of Director of Social Work before retiring in 2010. Doristeen is survived by sons Dwight Mickel and Darrell Mickel both of Toledo, Ohio; daughters Audrey (Milton) Pearson, from Atlanta, Ga, and Joyce Mickel-Huggins of Toledo, Ohio; brothers Bishop Mickel, Jr Roy (Lori) Terry and J.W. (Alice) Terry all of Toledo, Ohio; sisters Patricia (Michael) Mickel-Brinker, Elaine (Howard) Hawthorne and Carolyn (Johnny) Horn all of Toledo, Ohio; and eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to gratefully thank the Toledo Clinic Family Practice, St. Ann's Toledo hospital and Promedica Hospice for the professional ability and medical care they provided. Thank you to all the nurses and therapists, whom all became friends.
