Obituary for John Ellison (Lyle)

John Harris Ellison, affectionately known as “Mr. Devil”, age 72, died Sunday, January 03, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a long battle with cancer. John was born on October 22, 1943 in Decatur, AL to the late Carrie and Richard Ellison, Sr. He graduated from Lakeside High School of Decatur, AL in 1962. He married the love of his life Annie Ellison in June of 1965 and moved to Toledo, OH, where he began working for GM Powertrain in January of 1968 and retired in December of 2006 after 39.4 years of service. He was a member of Bibleway Church. He was an avid lover of motorcycles, cars, music, his family and friends, and loved to wear flashy suits. John is survived by his loving wife Annie Ellison, children Lenora Ellison and Yolanda Ellison of Toledo, OH, grandchildren John Goings and Fleming Goings III of Toledo, OH, one great grandson, John Goings, Jr. of Toledo, OH, sisters Dorothy Goldsmith and Lorenda Ellison of Decatur, AL, adopted sister Dr. Bernice R. Swain of Decatur, AL, sisters-in-law Estelle Ellison and Marie Ellison of Toledo, OH, Mattie Cohen of Indianapolis, IN, Donna Lyle and Patricia McGruder of Los Angeles, CA, brothers-in-law Floyd Jones and Wesley Goldsmith of Decatur, AL, special friends Roy and Janie Scott of Toledo, OH, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be held at the House of Day Funeral Home , on Friday, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services are Saturday, January 09, 2016 at 11:00 am, preceded by a wake at 10:00 am, at the Bibleway Church, 2335 Collingwood Blvd. in Toledo, OH, Elder Jermaine McCallum, Officiant.
