Obituary for Martha Geneva Boyd (Daniel)

Martha Geneva (Daniel) Boyd was born on April 13, 1911 in Waco, Georgia. She was the 10th of 12 children born to the late Samuel and Roxie Daniel. She was called to eternal rest after 106 years on September 29th, 2017 at her home in Toledo, Ohio. All her brothers and sisters; Emily, Doc, Reatha, Ervin, Docello, Magnolia, Elzora, Steven, Mary, Enzie Bell, and Evelyn preceded her in death. Martha attended Buncombe Primary School, Flint Ridge and Bremen schools in Bremen, Georgia. Martha move to Toledo Ohio in 1938 where she took a job as a domestic worker. During that same year she married Ralph Boyd and two beautiful daughters were born to this union. She got a job working in the cafeteria of Mary Manse College located on Collingwood Avenue. While she was there she helped many of the young ladies including three who stayed with her and her family during summer school. Martha went on to complete her training as a home health aide at the Toledo Lucas County Health Department. Finally working for Family Services of Greater Toledo, Ohio until she retired in 1975.

Martha has been a proud and faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church since 1938. She loved singing in the choir and working with the Helping Hands Ministry who provided food and care to those who were sick and shut-in. Martha loved to bake cakes and cobblers for any church program . Finally, she served on the church's Mother's Ministry and was the oldest mother to hold a leadership role.

Martha leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter's Marilyn Gandy and Carol Yates; Grandchildren Ronald (Brenda) Yates Jr, Dwane Yates, and Marlena (Jim) Moreland; Great-Grandchildren Ronald Yates III (Trae), Kristin Yates, Elijah Yates, and Jonathan Moreland along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
