Mother Gertrude Bates, was born, July 8, 1916, she was the seventh of nine children born to, Leslie and Addie White, whom all preceded her in death.

During her childhood, she attended school until the eighth grade. After she worked in the fields and went on to become a homemaker.

Mother Bates had one child, George Bates, born October 24,1934.She married Joe Bates, November 28, 1938, both preceded her in death.

Her passions were caring for her family, attending church, until her health failed, and fishing as often as possible.

She was a long time member of People's Missionary Baptist Church, and at the time of her passing, was the oldest member.

Left to cherish her memory, granddaughter and caregiver, Gertrude "Trudy" Bates; grandchildren, Addie Bates, Carol Williams, Christine (Bill) Bradley, Joeann Armstead, George Johnson and Dustin Bates; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
