Obituary for Garland Woodson

Garland Woodson
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Garland Woodson was born July 24, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Eugene Woodson and Freddie Mae Woodson. He was affectionately known as “G.W.” Before his health started to decline, he was employed at Chrysler for 16 years.

Garland had a genuine and sincere love for his children. His children were his world, and they meant everything to him. There were no limitations to the things that he would do to protect them, provide for, or just to be around them. He would tell everyone, “I don’t play about my kids, and I’ll hurt somebody about them.”

He also had a deep passion for music, especially music from the ‘70’s and ‘80’s genres. He enjoyed listening to music from sun up until sun down. Some of his favorite music came from singers such as; The Temptations, The Manhattans, BB King, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Teddy Pendergrass, Johnnie Taylor, The Spinners, The Stylistics, After 7, Marvin Gaye, and Sade.

In his prime, Garland took extreme pleasure in his appearance, and his vehicles often matched his attire. Garland also enjoyed singing, dancing, skating, and traveling to Detroit to visit his family. He was indeed the life of the party. He enjoyed entertaining people, and he lived his life to the fullest. Garland had a smile that would turn a misty sky blue.

Garland accepted Christ into his life at a very early age. He was baptized at Grace Temple Church, and he always kept Reverend Willie Knighten and the Northwestern Missionary Baptist Church very close to his heart.

On Monday, October 9, 2017, Garland Woodson graduated from this life at Heatherdowns Rehabilitation and Residential Center. He persevered and relentlessly fought the battle with failing health for many years before departing this life.

Garland was proceeded in death by both of his parents, aunt; Phoebe Cox.

He leaves to survive and to cherish his memories to his sons; Antonio “Tony” Stuart, Garland (Charvette) Parker, Adrian Johnson, Garland Johnson, daughters; Sunzarae Johnson, and Khristian Johnson, brothers; Eugene (Geri) Woodson, Cedell (Janice) Woodson, Maurice Woodson, Andre (Tracy) Woodson, Adrian Woodson, sisters; JoAnn (Charles) Shealey, Paulette (Bob) Miller, Gwen (Bill) Atkins, Francine Woodson, Rhonda Hester, Cherial “Rhenay” Woodson, and Kim Florence,17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, special friends; Renee Johnson and Glynece “Neicy” Zimmerman, close cousins; Richard “Clifford” Woodson, Dwight Woodard, and Artie Johnson; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved--Romans 10:9
