Obituary for Lorene Fox

Lorene (Marshall) Fox was born in Calhoun City, Miss. on Jan. 12, 1930. She was the first born child of Jacob Marshall. She was mostly raised by her grandmother, Lizzy Johnson. among others. She grew up as a sharecropper working in the cotton fields of Mississippi, chopping and picking cotton. On Feb. 22, 1948, Lorene gave birth to her first child, a son name Leonard Stovall. Later in life, she became a domestic, working in the homes and caring for the families of some of the more affluent people of the town of Calhoun City. In or about 1959, she married E. L. Fox. To that union came three sons and one daughter, Elmer Lee, Loretta, John Wayne, and Terry Cardell, After starting their life together in Mississippi, after the birth of their first three children, they decided to move to their family to Toledo, Oh. and their youngest child was born in Ottawa Lake Michigan, where E. L. single-handedly built them a beautiful brick home that is still standing to this day. Lorene's life passions were her family, her church, The Church of the Living God, the Pillar, the Ground, and the Truth, and her country living. She had a very special love for gardening and animals. in particular dogs and cats. At one particular time, she had a total of 21 cats that she fed and watered daily. She would spend a large portion of her Social Security check to make sure her animals were properly cared for. She was a home body and loved it that way. Her only time on an airplane was when she went to Arizona to see her "baby' Cardell graduate from the Tucson Arizona Police Academy. She actually enjoyed it but saw no need to ever do it again. About 2013 Lorene's health started to deteriorate and she was diagnosed as having dementia and it grew in to full blown alzheimer's. At that point, not being able to live alone, her family found the need to have her live in Ridgewood Manor Nursing Facility, where she resided until her transition on Friday, November 3, 2017. Lorene was preceded in death by her grandmother Lizzy Johnson, father Jacob Marshall, siblings Earceal Mitchell, Ola Mae McChristin, Jeremiah Marshall, Jacob Willis (J.W.), her husband E. L.
