Obituary for Roberta Johnson

Roberta Johnson
Roberta Johnson aka “Gran” made her transition to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the age of 79. She was born in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Marie Jackson on February 24, 1938. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She attended Swanton High School. On December 30, 1955, Roberta married her childhood friend, Alfonso Johnson. They were married for over 62 years.

Roberta worked as a teacher’s aide for children with special needs at Warren Elementary for many years. She also worked at Collingwood Nursing Home and Mark’s Nursing Home as the head cook, retiring after many years of service.

Roberta was a nurturing woman. Many people looked to her for guidance, a listening ear and unyielding love. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. An avid reader of books, magazines and all sorts of other literature, she passed this love of reading on to all of her children. She also enjoyed playing the daily lottery, watching Jeopardy and taking bus trips to the casino with her sister, Loretta.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents - Marie and Walter Jackson; brothers - Walter L. Jackson Jr., Ronald L. Jackson, Kenneth G. Jackson and James Jackson; son Tyrone L. Johnson; daughter Wanda Johnson-Williams; grandchild Kasey-Ann Johnson and great-grandchild Ny’Air Nix.

Surviving are her husband Alfonso Johnson; sister Loretta Hopings-Levesque; brother Michael Jackson; daughters - Denise Wright, Debra Johnson, Christine (Renarda) Shumpert and Karen Johnson; sons - Alfonso K. (Myrtle) Johnson, Phillip (Patricia) Johnson all of Toledo, OH and Steven (Lashay) Johnson of Stockbridge, GA; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Roberta impacted so many lives that her presence will live on forever through all that she came in contact with.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 4:00 pm, preceded by a 3:00 pm Wake at Second Baptist Church, 9300 Maumee Western Rd, Monclova, Ohio 43542.
