Obituary for Carl Bryan Anderson

Carl Bryan Anderson, affectionately known as “Bryan” was born on January 6, 1931 here in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Carl Anderson and Elise Anderson Gillard. He departed this life on April 13, 2018 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Bryan confessed his life to Christ in its Sunrise and joined Warren A.M.E. Church in Toledo, Ohio. He was united in marriage to Vanda LaVerne where a son, Christopher Kevin, and a daughter, Tonya Meschelle, were born. A while later, he joined All Saints Episcopal Church. In the Midday of his life, he enjoyed matrimony to Barbara Ruth Davis. After becoming a widower in 1992, he continued to actively serve, worship, participate in the choir, men’s group, and various other ministries at All Saints. During the years of his Sunset, Bryan wed his current wife of 24 years, Mary Elizabeth Huckleby and played a vital role in the lives of his stepchildren Carlton Jr., and Wayne Allen, Gail Allen Mincey, and Mary (Nathaniel) Harwell.
Bryan attended Gunckel Elementary and graduated from Libbey High School. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Armed Forces, was a loyal employee of Champion Sparkplug and moved on to retire from the United States Postal Service. He took care of his mother, children, and wife with great honor and care. He was also a breath of fresh air and a shining light in the lives of his grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bryan was the life of the party and was often labeled as the best entertainer! He was known for his contagious laugh. He found great pleasure in hosting parties and loved watching sports. During a gathering, he would often playback the voices of those who had passed on as a means of “keeping them with us”.
Bryan loved to fish, play billiards, bowl, and he could draw magnificently. He also found great pleasure in videotaping events and performances, especially those involving singing. He collected memories of his parents, children, stepparents, and aunts through pictures and recordings. He always showed up with a smile. Actually, he always just showed up. No matter the event, if Bryan was invited, more often than not, he showed up.
Bryan was never a sickly man. He was always full of joy and life. He certainly went to sleep with a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his stepfather Jack Gillard, his brothers Darrell and Stephen Gillard, his grandson Kevin Eugene Anderson, and his stepdaughter Tammy Matthews.
Bryan leaves to mourn his passing his wife Mary Anderson: his son Christopher Anderson and daughter Tonya Anderson of Toledo, OH; his stepchildren Carlton Jr. and Wayne Allen, Gail Mincey and Mary (Nathaniel) Harwell of Toledo, OH. Cherishing his memory are his brothers Clark Gillard of Toledo, OH and Frank Gillard of Boston, MA; his granddaughters NaKeita (Herbert) Savage of Orlando, FL, Christal Anderson of Lakeland, FL, Keionna McFarland and Brandy Anderson of Toledo, OH; a special step-granddaughter and roadie Zoi Allen of Toledo, OH; a great friend Reverend George Thomas of Toledo, OH; and a host of step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, co-workers, parishioners, , and friends.
