Obituary for Lawrence Turner

Lawrence  Turner
Lawrence Turner passed away on August 22, 2018 at the UTMC Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 5, 1933 to the late Bonie and Yalor Turner in Blackton, Arkansas.
He was raised in Toledo, Ohio where he graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School in 1952. He served in the US. Army from 1953-1955 and later retired from the University of Toledo in 1985. After retirement he was a Foster Grandparent to the children at Warren Elementary School. He was a lifetime member of the Glass City Church of Christ. His gifts of service were Treasurer and Deacon. While serving there, he initiated the first youth group and High School Graduation Banquet. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and cooking. His specialties were Bar-b-que ribs, homemade ice cream and sweet potato pie. He never missed an opportunity to tell a joke.
Lawrence is survived by his children, Deborah (John) Lockett, Lawrence Alan Turner, Martin ( Katherine) Turner, their mother Martha Turner-McFollins, granddaughters; Daniela (Glenn) Hewins, Alana (Roosevelt III) Hartley, Martina and Victoria Turner, great grandchildren; Jalyn, Janai and Jianna Jenkins, Nyla Turner-Watkins, Brylan and Brennen Hartley, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brothers; John, Guyve, Harold, Melvin and Charles Turner, and sisters; Ernice Conley, Effie Hall, Mattie Jones, Rozell Johnson, Herbertine Turner.
The memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday September 1, 2018 at the Glass City Church of Christ, 901 Hoag St., Toledo, OH 43607.
