Mr. Marcel Derwin Burnley, a.k.a “Celly Cel” age 53 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born July 10, 1965 in Toledo, Ohio to the late James D. Burnley and Exoramae H. Burnley. He accepted Christ at an early age in life as a faithful Catholic which in his early years he attended St. Teresa Catholic School. He was also a 1983 graduate of Edward Drummond Libbey High School. Which he played Football as a Cornerback. He also enjoyed played Basketball with his friends at City Park in his younger years.

After High School he worked for the City of Toledo for over 20 years in various department but for the last several years in the Sewers division. He was a member of the Teamster Local 20 and AFSCME Local 7. One thing about Marcel is he loved his job and he made sure that he was there and on time.

He loved and treasured all his children and talked about how proud he was of them and he loved each one of them. Whenever they needed him, he was there. He would spend time with each one of them and always shared with them his fatherly advice. His biggest joy in his life was his two grandchildren and they loved their granddad. He loved his sisters and was always calling them to see if they cooked so he could get a plate. Everyone know that Marcel loved to eat and the only thing he would turn down was his collar.

Anyone that knew Marcel loved him. He was always cracking jokes and putting smiles on everyone’s faces. He was part of the Dirtcake brothers, that were friends all the way from childhood. He loved playing cards and his PlayStation and would challenge anyone to a game. He truly loved his Dallas Cowboys, Ohio State Buckeyes and Boston Celtics which you could always find him at home watching all his sports teams. His favorite thing to say was “I stay home, I just stay out the way.” Cel’s house was the house that all his friends knew that they could come over and hang out cracking jokes and arguing over who’s sports teams was the best. Whoever was on the losing team they never heard the end of it. But it was nothing but the love of pure friendship and bond that they all had!

Marcel was preceded in death by both parents James and Exoramae Burnley. He leaves to treasure his memory son, Marquis Adams; daughters Kimyata Pettaway, Jasmine Burnley all of Toledo and Teylar Poindexter of Columbus, Ohio. Grandchildren Daveion Pettaway and Earl Mitchell Jr. Brother, Desmond J; sisters Charlene C. Burnley (special friend, Linda Keller) of Moreno Valley, CA, Donna M. Tucker, Corliss A. Wiggins and Janet C. Burnley all of Toledo. He also leaves to cherish a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a special mention to his best friends since childhood Albert Harper and Howard Mobley in which they both could share so many stories of the three of them as young men to adults. He loved his significant other Tina Roberts which they spent a lot of time together and often traveled to so many different places. His City of Toledo co-workers, the Libbey Cowboy family and neighborhood friends will forever miss him as well.

Celly Cel we were all so blessed to have you in our lives and we will never be the same. Until we meet again, may God bless you, now you can rest my love.
