Obituary for Nep Theodia Brassfield

NEP THEODIA BRASSFIELD

Nep Theodia Brassfield aka Neptune or ‘Tunie’ (as affectionately called by family) has completed his life journey at the age of 64 on December 19, 2018. If you knew Nep you were touched by his ability to irritate you in a fun-loving way or make you laugh to no end. He truly was a jokester and loved to pick on those that he cared about, that’s how you knew he cared. Fishing ranked as one of his favorite hobbies as well as playing some golf, enjoying the L.A. Lakers or just sitting on the front porch with friends and talking about life in general.
Nep was born to Raymond (Rocky) Brassfield and Lucy Thelma (Grace) Brassfield on August 11, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio. He was a graduate of Devilbiss High School and pursued further studies at the University of Toledo in Criminal Justice. He went on to work at the Lucas County Sheriff Department as a Corrections Officer. He later became employed at the Lucas County Board of Elections and was a Supervisor until the time of his retirement. Nep known in the community to lift a hand where he could, served on the boards of the Toledo Metro Federal Credit Union and the Old West End Neighborhood Initiative. A big part of Nep’s life as a young boy was the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Later in his adult life he also became a big brother.
Nep was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Baker) Brassfield and his father Raymond Brassfield. He is survived by his mother; Lucy Thelma Grace-Osbourne, sisters; Chay Brassfield, Elder Iva Brassfield, Joy Osbourne of Austin, TX, Ashley Adams of Kennesaw, GA and Tori (Rob) Nicholson of Manteca, CA. Step-son Douglas Baker, step-grandsons; Davion, Douglas and Deon Baker (his boys) in addition to a host of nieces, nephews extended family and friends. Special friends; Thomas (Skipper) and Vanessa Williams, Lamar Campbell and Sam (Buster) and Elaine Garrett. Special thank you to his neighbors Milton and Maynie Evans for watching out and caring for him, and Ernie and Brenda Fawyers.
