Obituary

Eva Flowers returned to the oneness of God peacefully early Monday morning, December 31, 2018, after being surrounded by loving family members at her bedside.  She was 80 years young and the 13th Of 14 children, seven brothers and six sisters. She was born September 3, 1938 in Holmes County, Durant, Mississippi.  She was the daughter of the late Wiley and Sarah (Rogers) Horton.

Eva is survived by her husband Ernest Flowers to whom she had been married to 56 years and they had five children: Ernest Lenell Jr., Donald (Dana), Audrey (Polymin), Vincent (Nkenge), and Broyny (Derek).  She is also survived by three siblings Ruth Davis, Clara McGee, and Virgie Smith. She leaves a legacy of fifteen grandchildren Trae, Ashawanty, Rasul, Shanelle, Janelle, Ayanna, Erykah, Danielle, Hasana, Faheem, Jaleel, Nia, Nyah, Amiya and Makayla, and two great-grandchildren: Marriah and Traevon.

Eva was a homemaker for most of her married life and spent years volunteering at the schools her children attended. She was a member of the PTA and NAACP. She was very active in her community and loved working with children. Her work as a school Parent Liaison was appreciated by many.

She enjoyed writing poetry and sending letters and short notes of inspiration to family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and often invited her grandchildren, nieces and nephews to “help out in the garden” when they came to visit. Her homemade wheat rolls, apple pies and zucchini bread were family favorites. Her welcoming, kind, generous and sweet spirit made her a “neighborhood mom.”

Two of her favorite sayings were “Keep the Faith” and “The Biggest Room is The Room for Improvement”. Eva Fairy Flowers was a loving, supportive and faithful wife, mother, sister and friend.  May God be pleased with the way she lived her life and how she helped so many throughout her time among us.

My deepest sympathy to each of you for your loss. Deep sorrow fills your hearts at this time. May you find comfort and strength in Almighty God. He is the Giver of life. It saddens him when we shed tears of sorrow.  Through his Word he gives us comfort and hope for those who have fallen asleep in death. John 6:40 John 11:43-44 Psalms 37:29
