Obituary for Wilma Jean Sheares

Wilma Jean Sheares, daughter of the late Belvin and Veoria Mize, was born April 16, 1951 in Lima, Ohio. She departed this earthly life on January 19, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, Ohio. She attended the public schools of Lima and graduated from Lima Senior High School, Class of ‘69. After high school, she was granted a full scholarship to Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music in 1973.
At an early age Wilma professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Fourth Street Baptist Church in Lima, Ohio. She later moved to Toledo, Ohio and became a faithful member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.
In 1985 Wilma was united in holy matrimony to Reverend F. Alexander Sheares and the two, together, joined Southern Missionary Baptist Church. In 1992, when her husband was called to pastor, Wilma became First Lady of Rossford First Baptist Church.

Wilma was very actively involved in church ministry. She has always served in any capacity where there was a need. In Rossford First Baptist alone…She formed the Jr. Church and taught it until someone else came forth to take over. She taught and directed the Adult Choir. She was a member of the Women Of God Ministry and the Senior Missionary Ministry. She was a former Advisor of the Junior Missionaries, the Young David Ministry and the Performing Arts Ministry. She also formed a Young Adult Fellowship called the F.O.T.C.H. Ministry (Followers On The Christian Highway). She was also a faithful and devout member of The Voices Of Joy Unlimited.

Wilma was employed by Standard Oil after college and later moved on to hold positions at J. C. Penny, Company as well as Brach’s Candy. She then retired from Toledo Head Start, as a Teacher Supervisor, after 22 years of service. Wilma’s influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her faithful and loving husband, Pastor F. Alexander Sheares. Children, who loved her dearly, Troy (Tomika), Aakifah, Lige of Columbus, Ohio, Keyra (Michael) of Akron, Ohio, Quintin (Alexandria), Delance (Keitha), Alexander Jr. (Shawntina) and Vanessa of Toledo, Ohio. 21 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren. Her only beloved sister and best friend, Mary Elizabeth Sanders; very close and special nephew, Stanton Sanders; 3 other very close friends, Glenna Wilson-Barnes, Dr. Linda Whittington-Clark and Debra Johnson; her Rossford First Baptist Church Family and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
