Obituary for Doris Q Claybrooks

Doris Quintella Claybrooks, age 92, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2019. Doris was born in Nashville, TN on August 15, 1926 to William and Beatrice Green. She graduated from Pearl High School and attended Fisk University for a while.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Melvin Claybrooks Jr., who preceded her in death. They were married for over 50 years. To this union was born two children, Mel and Bobbyette. Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. There was nothing in her power she not would do for her family.

A woman of faith, Doris was an active, dedicated member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church serving in the choir, as a missionary and a member of the Sunday School and Trustee Board. She loved her church family. She was also the first woman elected to serve on the Finance Committee of the Annual Conference.

Doris loved to travel and was very active in planning trips with Block Club 15 until her heath began to fail. She worked at Rossford Ordinance Depot and retired from the DuPont Co. after many years of service.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Claybrooks Jr.; son Melvin Claybrooks III; five brothers and one sister.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bobbyette Sanders (Cleveland) of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Sheila Tyler (Barry) of Birmingham, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Lynn; five granddaughters, two grandsons, and twelve great-grandchildren; special cousins, Ella Show of Detroit, MI, Ruth Turner (Avis) of Washington, D.C.; devoted friends, Jackie Simmons, Betty Williams, and other relatives and friends.
