Obituary for Ethel Mae Jaynes

Ethel Mae Gregory-Jaynes was born November 22,1928 in Florence Mississippi to the union Charlie & Viola Gregory, who both preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Florence Mississippi. She met and married the love of her life E.L. Jaynes at the tender age of 16. This year would have marked their 75th Year of marriage. To this union 8 children were born.

She departed her earthly life on Wednesday June 26,2019 at Hospice of N.W. Ohio. After marriage she and her husband relocated to Toledo, Ohio and joined Mt. Pilgrim Church where she remained a life-long member and served in many capacities.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, awesome grand/great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was preceded in death by siblings James Gregory Sr., Mary Webb, Charlie Gregory Jr, and Verlene Williamson , children E.L (Butch) Jaynes, Diahann Lynn Boyd, Vanessa Wright, and grandchild Brandee LaChez Jaynes.

Ethel was affectionately known as “MOM”to many. Her past hobbies were bowling, gardening, and she loved to cook. She loved her family ad looked forward to Family Reunions. As a young woman along side of her Grandfather Amos Taylor, she assisted in "The Taylor Family Reunion" held at Pearson park for many years. The reunion has carried on for 64 consecutive years being hosted in various states throughout the country.

Every year her home lit up the neighborhood with Christmas lights which was her favorite time of the year. She also worked as a health care worker in various locations throughout the city. After retirement, she took on babysitting to help young parents as well as her own grand & great grandchildren. She Will Be Missed by Many !
Left to cherish her memories is her husband of 75 years, E.L. Jaynes five children , Edward Earl Jaynes, Rev. Evonne (Leslie) Linear, Dorothea Jaynes, RoseMary Richardson, Jeffery Allen Jaynes, 18 wonderful grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, sisters Irene Boykin and Joyce Moore, brother, Amos Gregory Sr: sister in-law Mary Lois Jaynes, special adopted daughter Wanita Mayberry and her daughter Brittany Smith. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special Thanks to those who cared for her throughout her illness, especially Hospice of N.W. Ohio and their choir who sang beautiful songs to her and ushered her into Heaven’s Gates.
